Kegels strengthen the muscles in the pelvis, often referred to as the pelvic floor muscles, which support the pelvic organs and through which pass the urethra, rectum, and vagina. These exercises are used to improve urinary continence and the intensity of orgasms. They are particularly useful for women with incontinence and for men after prostate cancer surgery (radical prostatectomy).

To learn how to do a kegel, stop the flow of urine abruptly while urinating. It’s the same contraction as preventing gas from escaping the other end. To be sure one is doing them correctly, stand in front of the mirror naked and do the exercise. Make sure you are not flexing abs, thighs, or buttocks. Men will notice the scrotum rise a bit with contraction. Once you know how to do them, try to do sets of 20 a few times a day and see if you notice a difference after a few weeks.
